"SfR Fresh" - the SfR Freeware/Shareware Archive
Member "mkdnstab-0.6b/README" of archive mkdnstab-0.6b.tar.gz:
As a special service "SfR Fresh" has tried to format the requested source page into HTML format using source code syntax highlighting with prefixed line numbers.
Alternatively you can here view or download the uninterpreted source code file.
That can be also achieved for any archive member file by clicking within an archive contents listing on the first character of the file(path) respectively on the according byte size field.
README, albeit somewhat disorganized, for mkdnstab-0.6b:

mkdnstab will create a DNS table for a class C subnet or a subnet
thereof, as well as creating the conf file for BIND 8.

I know its not perfect, but it will save you the hassle of typing
a bunch of addresses manually.

Prerequisites:

PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE BOG, THE DNS-HOWTO, AND APPROPRIATE
RFCs PRIOR TO RUNNING DNS ON AN INTERNET-CONNECTED MACHINE!

**** I will try to practice what I preach in hopes to improve this
tool...

/rant mode on
It is the opinion of the author that you are responsible for
understanding DNS. mkdnstab is a convenience tool, only.
Please note that running a nameserver for a bogus or conflicting
domain can cause serious problems with your connectivity and
that of others. There are methods for restricting access to
your server from the internet at large, so please read the man
page for the bind 8 conf file if this affects you.
DNS security is another issue, beyond the scope of this document,
that should also be understood.
/rant mode off

You will need a copy of mkdnstab, perl, and the named.ca file.
named.ca is sometimes called named.root, but is essentially the
same thing. It contains a list of the root nameservers, enabling
your machine to perform DNS lookups at the top level of the
heirarchy. Additionally, this information is cached locally for
future lookups, which is why many call it .ca for 'ca'ching.

For version 0.6a you do not need to edit the script. Some default
values are available in the sample.dnstab file. This version is a
gui app, which allows you store and retrieve zone settings. You
must install the Tk perl modules for this version. A major
undertaking for just this particular feature, but oh well ;)

See the local copies of named.fwd, named.rev, named.local and
named.conf for sample output.
